I highly recommend BIRTH to all women and men on the road to parenthood and to anyone whose work is related to pregnancy, birth and the well being of the families who come to them for help.

I just wanted to say that I think you have a very informative and balanced book. As an obstetrician, it can be difficult advising women of where to look for information that is not biased by anecdotal and/or personal experience. I think you have done very well in your explanations and the information you provide. I think that the labour guide is great for women and their support partner - I often refer people to this guide. Your natural pain therapies section is also very helpful - I used this when I was a support person for a friend. Well done in providing sensible, balanced advice.

Birth is a remarkable effort by two remarkable women and I for one will finally have a decent and definitely comprehensive childbirth book to recommend to the women I care for. I highly recommend it!

I walked into work today, I work in a bookshop, and popped into the baby section to grab something to read when the shift got quiet and I saw a copy of the book right in front of me on the shelf. Read it all day today and purchased it at the end of my shift. Congratulations it looks beautiful very eye catching and reads well. I've read almost all of the books on the market (as part of my job of course) and I have to say I have learnt some new things, seen a bunch of sections not even touched upon in many other books and finally found a resource that will be as good for my partner as it will be for me.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your book. It is an informative read full of practical information for both myself and my husband. I have read it through – some parts even two or three times! It is by far the best book on the market for anyone wanting to have a baby! And trust me I have read a fair few now!!! Congratulations on an excellent book which will stay by my side for the entire process.

I got your book in the mail the other day. Just wanted to let you know that it's great! (Although I'm sure you knew that already!) "What to Expect..." has already been relegated back to the bookshelf! The book is really clear without being condescending. Have learnt heaps already. Good luck with it!

BIRTH all the way!!! Awesome book...Birth stayed beside my bed and each week I would read what I was up to... it answered any questions that I had... I cant rate it high enough.

Congratulations, your book "Birth" is just fantastic! Whilst pregnant, I assumed I would need to buy many books to get all of the information that I needed. However, after buying your book, I realised no other books would be necessary. I just loved the non-judgemental tone which is so rare to find.

I just wanted to let you know that the book arrived in my letterbox on Friday. Thanks so much for being so prompt. I've already had a good read of the second trimester chapter. It's also nice to read about the Australian experience, with Australian references (eg "Neighbours"). It makes it so much more real.

Can't speak highly enough of "Birth" - it is the best by far! My other pregnancy books have not left the bookshelf since I bought "Birth". It is balanced, explains things clearly and well set out. My husband really appreciated the sections in "Birth" that speak to the support person for the labouring woman. Get it, you won't regret it!

Well I can tell you from personal experience that there are too many books in the category, but not many that I felt catered to me: a no-nonsense career, type A woman. There also don't seem to be a lot that combine traditional medical advice with natural - seems to be one or the other, even though most people I know want to try both.

I'm surprised you're not in a bidding war with American publishers! I'm almost wondering if the problem is the title..."Birth" sounds a little poetic to me. Maybe something along the lines of "Straight Talk about Pregnancy and Birth" or perhaps keep the title, but change the lines at the bottom to read something like "The practical woman's guide to everything from preconception to labor". Those are just my two ($US) cents!

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for the book 'Birth'. Last night, I started reading and I didn't stop for the next couple of hours. It is the first book that I have read that details EVERYTHING.I had a quite a few questions in my mind and the book has answered them and lots more. Its absolutely fantastic. I also think that there is quite a lot for Michael in it as well.

Thanks again, it is a perfect gift.

Just wanted to say thanks for the book, it came last week, and is fantastic!! Already I've found it to be a good resource, and I have to say, I much prefer looking things up in a book than through a website (but I've always been more of a book girl!). Good on you!!!

I have been reading "Birth. Conceiving, Nurturing & Giving Birth to your Baby" (Catherine Price & Sandra Robinson). This is one of the most comprehensive, up-to-date & well-researched pregnancy books I have come across. It is Australian so all the information is very relevant which is refreshing. It offers a very balanced perspective between western medical perspectives and natural therapies. Worth the read.

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to Sandra and Catherine for such a fantastic book! I bought it the other day and have found it absolutely invaluable. I haven't had time to read it page by page yet but had a couple of concerns I wanted answered and was able to go to the index and find an informative answer immediately. I particularly love the table that shows that lists all the vitamins with recommended daily dosages during pregnancy, what foods that vitamin is found in and possible effects of overdosing. I'm going to be recommending it to everyone!!

I have now read "Birth" from cover to cover and keep going back for references often, and I am only 12 weeks pg! I recommend it to everyone including my OB! Also, I noticed when in Adelaide city yesterday, that it has made the "best sellers" list in Borders bookstore (an international bookstore, no less!). Congratulations Catherine and Sandra.

I just wanted to congratulate you on such a great book. My husband and I are already avidly reading about what lies ahead for us, and I particularly like the sections about likely emotions.

Thanks!

I have "Birth", as well as two other books, and also borrowed "What to expect..." from a friend (so four books in all - overdoing it a little, huh?). In my opinion Birth is by far the best of all of them, and definitely worth a purchase.

Definitely get the Birth book. I've had What to Expect, and another US pregnancy book but they don't measure up to the Birth book. Even my husband was reading through how to be a support and the stages of labour.

I have had 'Birth' since I fell pregnant, and love it, it is my bible! It's so informative, and very well written. It also has a great section on preparing yourself for pregnancy. Well worth the purchase.

The Birth book comes EVERYWHERE with me! I love it. I had it when TTC also and found the information very good. Get it, it is worth its weight in gold.

I totally agree with the others. What to Expect seems to be written purely to frighten women, instead of treating the whole experience as natural and normal. Birth is fantastic.

I received my copy of Birth yesterday in the mail. I've already read the first couple of chapters and am finding it enthralling! Congratulations on a job well done. Robin Barker said in her foreword that "Birth" has the potential to be a bestseller and I completely agree. It has absolutely everything for everyone. I will certainly be recommending it to everyone I can!

I just wanted to let you know I got my book yesterday and to tell you what a fantastic job you have done. I went to the Caesarean section first (I had an emergency one) and it was great reading about the actual operation as none of my other books went into as much detail. The whole chapter is fantastic, especially the emotional side and the info on VBAC. I have now gone back to the start and am reading my way through. Congratulations on a really great book.

I too got my copy of the book yesterday and was reading it all night! I love the format, very easy to find stuff and follow topics. Its very up to date and encompasses a broad range of ideas and decisions. I've recommended it to all my non-pregnant friends already for the future. Thanks :)

Just wanted how impressed I am with your "Birth" book. I picked it up last night, and have learnt so much already. Brett (my husband) is really enjoying it as well. Congratulations on a fantastic job!

I bought your book on Saturday and wanted to congratulate you both. Well done. It also emphasised for me that my own classes that I teach at Leichhardt are on the right track. It is a very simple and easy to read resource and evidence based which is great. I will certainly recommend it to my clients. Well done. Keep up the good work

My copy of the BIRTH book is my bible and have made notes on the pages during each of my pregnancies - it is a great resource.

Very comprehensive resource I purchased after getting freaked out by What to Expect! Being Australian based it was very informative about our system and covered every area I could think of in respect to not only pregnancy and birth but aftercare as well. Out of all of the books I purchased during my pregnancy, this was the one I referred to the most often. It has a great variety if topics that cover all areas of baby and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who was a book that covers everything!

I bought this book because it came highly recommended as one of the best books of its kind that is actually written by two Australian women for Australian women - a nice change from some of the UK or US books on the market. A very good reference tool. This book is a fantastic buy. I would recommend it to anyone, and will be holding on to it for when I have my next baby.

I LOVE my 'Birth' book. I have earmarked many pages for DH and my Mum and it is ready and packed in my labour bag especially for the quick reference 'Labour Support Guide' at the back. I've been really impressed with its layout, simple language, interesting facts and the fact that it is Australian. 'Birth' would be my pick of the bunch any day.

If you, or someone close to you, is due to give birth, it may pay to read chapter five of this book, especially the section detailing what to do if the baby is born before arrival at the planned birth place. It is just one of the scenarios authoritatively covered in this book, which is sure to set at ease the mind of many a first time mother. Others wanting ideas on how to discuss the upcoming birth and sibling to their young children, will find them here, too. Birth is a book to trust because it scores points on many counts – including the facts that it is so comprehensive, it’s Australian and it’s written by a midwife and childbirth educator. It is impressive in size at 600-odd pages, is meticulously researched and easy to read. Robin Barker, the respected best-selling author of the childcare classic Baby Love, has written the foreword. The authors, who are both mothers, provide clear and up-to-date information for expecting parents on everything to do with the period from conception to the unborn baby’s growth and development, birth and newborn care.

The various birthing options are explored, including home birth and water birth. The stages of labour and birth are explained in detail, as well as caesarean birth and multiple births, and even premature birth, still birth and miscarriage. Many similar books carry a chapter on methods of contraception. This one includes a detailed explanation of a method of natural family planning, which is refreshing to see. Methods of medical pain relief and natural and homeopathic methods of pain relief are covered in detail. Each chapter also includes sections on emotional reactions, positive and negative, that the woman and her partner might expect to experience as each hurdle is passed.

This book would make a great gift for the first time mother. The only improvement I would have made would have been to include pictures or illustrations of the developing foetus.
