Day 30: Congratulations!
Welcome to Day 30 of the Phone Breakup Challenge!
You did it! You have officially “broken up” with your phone and started a new relationship with it. Congratulations.
Thanks to your effort, you now have a clear view of how your phone makes your life better. You’re aware of how and when it makes you feel bad. You’ve changed some of your old habits and you’ve established new ones—and as a result, your phone has gone from being your boss to being a tool. You have joined the growing ranks of people who have taken back their lives from their phones.
In short, you’ve given yourself an enormous gift. And that’s why, for the final exercise of our breakup, I’d like you to give yourself some love. Please do something nice for yourself today.
And with the recognition that no relationship is perfect (don’t beat yourself up if there are still things you’re working on!), please write a congratulatory note to yourself describing what you are proud of accomplishing over the course of this breakup. (If you'd prefer, you can also write this as a love letter to your phone, describing your new relationship.)
How have you changed? What are you excited about? How do you feel about what you’ve done?
Some prompts, in case you’re stuck:
I used to think my phone . . . Now I think . . .
I’ve learned that . . .
I’m excited about
I’m grateful that
I'm looking forward to . . .
I’m happy to know that . . .
I’m proud of myself for . . .
Once you’ve written your message, compare it to the breakup note that you wrote at the beginning of the month. Celebrate what you have accomplished.
If you took the intake survey at the beginning of our time together, I also encourage you to take this final, recap survey – it’s a way to actually track your progress over the past 30 days! (And you can see how the congratulations note you wrote to your future self compares to the one you wrote right now.)
Then share as much as you would like in the comments — I cannot wait to read them!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this so fun and rewarding for me personally.
To scrolling less and living more,
PS: If you’re interested in another opportunity for a Digital Sabbath, I invite you to join me for the Global Day of Unplugging this Friday and Saturday!
